Rumors point to cheaper iPads and MacBooks this year

Rumors from several credible sources including DigiTimes, Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, and KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo are predicting that the price of the new MacBook Air could drop $100- $200. The current 13-inch, mid-2017 MacBook Air costs $999. The reported 13.3-inch “entry-level” MacBook is expected late in Q2 this year and will have a Retina Display with a 2560 x 1600 resolution.

The experts say we can also expect cheaper iPads this year, too. An updated 9.7-inch iPad is anticipated for the second quarter of this year, and a new iPad Pro in the second half of the year. The new 9.7-inch iPad could cost around $259, down from the $329 iPad Apple released last March.

Apple doesn’t tend to follow competitors’ trend of price slashing for the holidays so maybe these lower base prices are part of a company strategy to sell more units this year.
